Na zijn rechtenstudie in Libi\u00eb volgde hij nog een postgraduaat Internationaal Crimineel Recht in Khartoum, maar zijn masterthesis (over huurlingen) moest hij onderbreken toen de oorlog in zijn thuisgebied uitbrak. Van hieruit publiceert hij als Soedan-expert nog steeds in veel Arabische en andere media en voor internationale instellingen zoals de VN. Ook literair blijft hij productief. We hadden het met hem over de (voorgeschiedenis van) de situatie in zijn thuisland.
